Julie J

Julie J is a Black trans, Brooklyn-based drag performer, producer, community organizer, and performance artist. As a performer and advocate, she has been featured on MSNBC and in the Washington Post, PAPER Magazine, and NowThis News. Julie has been a featured performer in cities worldwide including Berlin, Prague, Bologna, and Sardegna. She also co-produces Sylvester, New York City's only monthly all-Black drag variety show. She was a University Settlement Performance Project Fellow in 2022 and was named a Next Generation Artist by La Mama Experimental Theater Company in 2019. In 2023, she was listed as one of Brooklyn’s 50 Most Fascinating People and was a featured speaker at Pride Live’s Stonewall Day. She has studied comedy at Upright Citizens Brigade and performance direction at La Mama Umbria’s Directors Symposium.

She is the creator of Stand Up NYC, a nightlife initiative bringing together performers, DJs, and nightlife community members to raise funds for organizations protecting and uplifting LGBTQIA+ individuals across the country, particularly in states where trans rights and access to healthcare are being threatened. To date, Stand Up NYC has raised over $75,000.
